Education is a foundation of life in which a person will build their entire world around. It is a stepping stone that is the first stage of the future. Everyone holds a key to their personal success, but that key is useless if the person lacks the knowledge and motivation to use it. This is where education gives us the tools that we need to use this key and it is the responsibility of the teacher to positively influence the student and provide the necessary skills and attitude for them to become successful citizens in an ever-changing world. Education should be focused on the student's future and providing the essential fundamental skills in which they need to succeed.

Diversity of students is growing rapidly among classrooms all across the nation. Teachers and students alike should realize these cultural differences and respect this diversity. All children should have an equal opportunity to learn the material that is set forth in the curriculum. Teachers should understand that not all students learn and progress at the same rate as other students, but embrace the idea that all students are capable of learning. Learners are individuals and their individual needs should dictate the way that a teacher interprets the curriculum in the classroom. Assimilating students into a whole robs those students of the individualism and personality, thus depriving the learner of their uniqueness and distinctiveness.

The curriculum should be based on essential fundamentals including subjects such as reading, writing, and arithmetic. These basic subjects will assist learners in building their educational foundation. Science and Social Studies will play an important role in helping students better understand the world in which they live and their roles within society. Other subjects such as art and music should be included in the curriculum to help shape the students to be well-rounded individuals. Life skills should also be incorporated into the curriculum to shape students to be socially acceptable members of society. In my experience, some students exhibit a poor attitude and an “I don’t care” mentality; whereas they deem education as a waste of time and a useless part of their lives. Attitude is truly the greatest barrier that I have had to overcome within my experience in the urban setting, but if you can reach a student and instill a sense of pride and fulfill the basic needs of the learner, you can make great strides in successfully shaping the student into becoming an inquisitive and successful learner. Teachers should provide the necessary motivation and enthusiasm to promote a safe and engaging classroom filled with creative and engaging lessons by keeping an organized classroom with various visual components with a sound understanding of objectives and expectations.

Teachers are in a position to enlighten and improve the well-being and future of their students. The position of a teacher consists of many different and important roles that the teacher must attempt to fill. The primary role of a teacher consists is as an educator, which has the responsibilities to educate, instruct, inform, and interpret the curriculum. Teachers have the job of instructing students in essential fundamentals of education such as reading, writing, and arithmetic. Another vital role of the teacher is to guide the students with his/her leadership to serve as a role model for the students to follow. As far as guidance goes, the teacher should be a role model, friend, and a listener so that the students can come to them and feel comfortable in sharing their problems with their teacher and trust in their guidance and advice. The teacher assumes a role of a nurturer in which the teacher shares his/her love and compassion for learning. The teacher also serves the purpose of a guardian and protector in which the teacher has the responsibility to protect the students from harm and/or danger. A very important task of a teacher is to motivate the students and make education something that a student wants to have and continue. The position of a teacher is very powerful and should be looked upon by the students as a friend and a leader, and not as a tyrant or oppressor. The teacher/student relationship should be one of trust and loyalty to improving the well-being and education of the students.

Education affects society in a powerful respect. The minds that teachers shape are the minds of the future. To better and improve the life of the student, the education must be a positive and successful part of today's students in order to make the future bright and successful in today's world. The future begins with the educational success of today. If the education of today's students is successful, then the future will be successful and bright for everyone. All persons can better themselves through education, whether it is early on in childhood, or later on in adulthood. Being a life-long learner should be the goal of not just teachers, but of everyone. Education is beneficial for anyone who strives to achieve it; it is the role of teachers to motivate students at a young age to become the best person that they are capable of becoming.

The foundation of a person's life and success begins with a successful education. The more knowledge a person obtains in their life will determine how successful their future can be. Life-long education should be emphasized so that the educational process never ceases and so that the future will have the chance to be better and brighter for everyone. Education should be focused on the learner's future and providing the essential fundamentals, skills, and motivation in which they need to succeed at the present and in the future.
